This workshop is designed to provide introductory information and prepare service
providers and first responders to identify, engage and provide long-term support to
sexually exploited youth. The introductory topics include: the social and cultural context
of the sex trades, the sub-culture of prostitution, types of exploitation, identification,
resiliency, trauma and global impacts of exploitation. The interventions and response
portion of the training is based on Stages of Change (Prochaska and DiClemente) and
is geared for community-based, drop-in, clinical and/or residential programs. Specific
approaches and interventions covered are: Relationship Building, Harm Reduction,
Safety Planning and Motivational Interviewing.
